Top Chemical Manufacturer, MFG Chemical, is Showcased in Plant Services Magazine
United States custom chemical manufacturer, MFG Chemical received the great privilege of being the cover story on the engineering news platform Plant Services. We are honored to be a part of the American chemical industry supply chain.
Learn about our growth from a small plant upgrade to a promising and effective multi-plant upgrade.
Chemical Companies
Back in 2018, our specialty chemicals company purchased a new facility in Pasadena, Texas. The addition of two new reactors enabled us to do a small upgrade. Who knew this was the start of something bigger and better in the global chemical industry?
Now, industrial chemical producers such as us must think of the next level. Looking at our data, as any successful corporation does, we wanted to improve, still with the customer and quality in mind.
What will our business goals be in this new decade of a fast-changing world? What services can we improve or expand on?
In our mission statement, we vowed to provide solutions to our partners and high-quality products to our customers. Our specialty chemical manufacturing company was determined to create a control system upgrade uniformly across our three plants in Georgia.
A Chemical Manufacturer and their Project Odyssey
Our primary focus for Project Odyssey was safety. Then, we realized we had to create infrastructure and product lines to appease to a growing market. MFG Chemical needed a system that could support increased demand of a variety of raw materials such as asphalt and fuel.
Under the guidance of our vice president of operations, the decision was made not to use a PLC (programmable logic controller). Reason being, PLCs did not have the level of flexibility and scalability that was adaptable to rapid growth.
Therefore, we chose to go with a DCS, a complete distributed controlled system. What is especially great about the DCS is, it can communicate with smart sensors and smart hardware. In other words, there are diagnostics built into its system that can track materials right out in the field.
While new process-controlled innovations were implemented, there was no new processing equipment added.
The biggest upgrade done was valve automation. To start, it reduces physical stress on the body for the team members. Plus, other processes can be worked on as the valves are activated. It also improves the heating process before the cooling stage.
To fulfill our goal of the highest standard of safety, new quench tanks and relief piping was installed. Moreover, the cooling functions, as well as reactor pressure and temperature all have constant monitoring. A process hazard analysis (PHA) is of course performed, as it is an OSHEA requirement.
In short, multi-reactor, multi-step processes are MFG’s signature mark on the chemical engineering industry.
Industrial Chemical Manufacturers
We are excited for our future in one of the most crucial industries in the world. From our tireless efforts, we have more advanced chemistries and products, which leads to more sales. Most importantly, more sales leads to more fruitful relationships with clients and customers in an industry vital to the future domestically and globally.
