The chemical industry trade association SOCMA (Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates) has named MFG Chemical the recipient of its Safety Recognition Program.

Specific criteria for SOCMA’s Safety Recognition include 1) active participation in the ChemStewards Program; 2) plant safety performance; 3) implementation of key safety programs; and 4) compliance with U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration safety requirements.

Upon the news of this Safety Recognition, MFG Chemical President & CEO Paul Turgeon said, “MFG has made safety the core value of the company, a value shared by all our employees. MFG is dedicated to improving environmental performance through optimizing resource use and significantly reducing the overall volume and hazardous characteristics of waste generated by manufacturing processes. We are happy to receive this industry Safety Recognition and will continue to invest in our plants and employees as we build on our strong safety and environmental performance.”.

Joe Welch, MFG vice president of Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S), said, “SOCMA has a strong history of supporting member companies in pursuit of EHS&S excellence. We are grateful for the committee’s recognition of our ongoing commitment to the safety of people working at our sites as well as the communities in which we operate. It is great to see similar dedication by the other member companies that were also recognized. It is a testament to the prevalence of safety values across the chemical industry.”

MFG has received numerous SOCMA Performance Improvement Awards in past years.

The SOCMA Safety Recognition honor was awarded to MFG at the SOCMA Summit in Charleston, South Carolina, on Oct. 29, during which MFG Chemical Vice President of Operations George Graham delivered a plenary session presentation titled “Filling the manufacturing gap: Recruiting new talent into chemical manufacturing.”

Graham explained, “This presentation reviewed the challenges faced by the chemical industry to keep up with the growing needs for qualified talent. I also shared the successful approaches employed at MFG Chemical, which include a safe and positive work environment with plenty of opportunities for career advancement.”
